Everything you need to know about Rona Halsall…
Rona is the author of Best Selling psychological thrillers published by Bookouture. Her books have hit the top 100 in the UK, USA, Australia, Canada and Germany and The Bigamist has been short-listed for an International Thriller Writers award for best original e-book in 2024.
She is about to start a new chapter in her publishing journey with Boldwood Books, who will be publishing her next five stories. The first of these, The Fiance, will be out on 2nd August 2024.
She loves a puzzle and her challenge is to find domestic storylines with twists that her readers will never guess.
Born in Nottingham, she grew up near Blackpool and went to university in Leeds. A decade later, she moved to Snowdonia, North Wales where she brought up her family while working as a business mentor. It wasn’t until she reached the age of fifty that she actually started her creative writing journey, with her first book being published seven years later.
Rona is an outdoorsy person and loves stomping up a mountain, walking the coastal paths and exploring the forests and beaches while she’s plotting her next book. She is always accompanied by her writing buddies, Maid the border collie and Evie, the Romanian rescue who are almost well behaved. She has three children and two step-children who are now grown up and leading varied and interesting lives, which provides plenty of ideas for new stories!

I have written about my author journey in my first blog post – How Did I Get Here?
And you might like some other miscellaneous bits and pieces…
Work
I was a business adviser and mentor for twenty-five years, working with small businesses and the voluntary sector. This was my route into creative writing as some of the grant applications and business plans took a fair amount of imagination to pull together!
When the mentoring finished, I got the best job I ever had working in an animal rescue centre in North Wales. Yes, I got cold and wet, but I loved working with animals and being outside. We had 33 horses, cats, dogs and a number of small animals. I left with three rescue guinea pigs and a puppy which we’d fostered but then adopted.
Hobbies
I was a keen rock-climber for over twenty years, until my brain finally realised that what I was doing was actually quite risky and decided it was no longer willing to co-operate. Over this period, I travelled all over the world to fantastic places with a bunch of weird and wonderful climbing partners. Now, I’m content to walk up a mountain with my dogs and often one of my kids. No need for anything too scary…
Reading is something I do for pleasure as well as for work. I enjoy a wide range of genres but my favourites are psychological thrillers. I also enjoy a good uplifting tale, to cleanse the reading palette. And I can get excited about a dystopian future story. I’m also enjoying a new found love of historical novels, which is strange as I hated history at school, but I love learning about different periods in time through stories.
I have a bit of an obsession with notebooks! Especially ones with gorgeous covers.
